Will we see a giant leviathan monster at the end of the season, using a new escort mode tasking teams of 50 gamers to guide or prevent fortnite items from going across the map? How could such a monster fit in the various mythical epochs we are seeing teased or leaked throughout the map?
Ultimately, this is 1 reason I have become such a major fan of Fortnite. It informs such a exceptional narrative in such a unique way. No conversation, no movies, no character sketches; instead, the story is woven directly into the match through events, changes in the map, and neighborhood sleuthing. It is such a distinctly video game type of narrative and Epic informs it with involvement from the audience.
For instance, when the rocket found it pointed out a quartet of laser-beams in Tilted Towers, the location on the map that lots of fans theorized the comet would destroy at the end of Season 4. It was almost certainly Epic nodding to all those theories. Subsequently the enemy entered a rift only a split second before bumping into Tilted, sparing the little city from a 2nd existential threat.
Could this have happened if nobody had ever considered Tilted since the comet’s target? Perhaps. Perhaps not. It is hard to say–but it certainly seems like Epic riffing off of this Fortnite community. And it is charming and enjoyable and supporting all at once.
Whatever the case, stay tuned for tomorrow’s big reveal which I will post here as soon as it is live. I will update this article with links to other reveals and revelations between today and Thursday when Season 5 kicks off.
Fortnite Season 5 begins Thursday, together with the standard suite of fresh challenges for the Battle Pass, fresh character outfits, emotes and dances. News about fortnite has released a slew of teaser pictures to give us some hints for what is in store, fueling rampant speculation as to what will in fact be changing. After the recent live rocket launch event that spread dimensional rifts throughout the map, there’s a clear sign large things are coming to the game, but Epic Games has yet to show its hand.
